

CDR Robert H. Heon, USN-RET, age 96, of Yarmouth Port, died Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Cape Cod Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Nancy E. (Dooley) Heon; a son, Robert Scott Heon and his wife Patricia, of Leesburg, Virginia; two daughters, Susan George and her husband Stephen, of Cohasset and Jody Rodgers and her husband Patrick, of Round Hill, Virginia; four grandchildren, Alyson Stefanski and her husband, Matt, Isabel George, and Emma Rodgers and her husband, Trevor Parker, and Ian Rodgers; a great grandson, Ash; along with many nieces and nephews. His first wife, Jean (Travers) Heon, and his sisters, Pauline H. Laffey and Jeanne E. Raszka, and two brothers, Richard E. Heon and Rayond P. Heon, predeceased him.
Commander Heon was born in Worcester, son of Victor Heon and Eva (Blanchard) Heon. He was a graduate of Classical High School, where he starred on the baseball and basketball teams; Holy Cross College, where he co-captained the 1951 baseball team; of George Washington University where he earned a master’s degree in government administration; and of the U.S. Navy Postgraduate School. He was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. His navy career included tours of destroyers, aircraft carriers and research ships; joint staff assignments in Norfolk, Virginia and Vietnam; and a tour as naval attaché in Sri Lanka. Following retirement from the U.S. Navy he enjoyed a second career in business in Virginia, after which he returned to Massachusetts.
CDR Heon was a member of the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post 204 in West Boylston, and VFW Post 8607 in Chatham, and the Holy Cross College Varsity Club. He was an avid golfer, and a member of the golf clubs at Kings Way in Yarmouth Port, Cranberry Valley in Harwich and Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bob’s visiting hours in the Doane Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 729 MA-134, South Dennis, on Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 4-6 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main St, West Harwich, on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 10am. Interment will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
