AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Robert George Powers

22 juillet 1950 – 6 septembre 2020
Avis de décès de Robert George Powers
AUX SOINS DE

Doane Beal & Ames

Robert George Powers, 70, of Dennis, formerly Andover, MA, passed away September 6, 2020. Born on July 22,1950, to the late Bernard and Dorothy (Rowan) Powers, he graduated from Hanover High (1968) and UMass Amherst (1973). He entered the world of business finance, eventually retiring in 2001 from his position of Director of Sales and Operations at EMC (Dell). During his EMC days, he was fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel and see the world.

A life long lover of sports, Bob played baseball for Hanover High and UMass. He was both a player and coach in the Boston Park League, served as their President, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame as both a player and coach. He coached D III collegiate level baseball at BU and UMass Boston, turning the latter’s failing program into one of the country’s best. Later, he focused on coaching various Cape Cod high school teams, most recently Barnstable High.

A dedicated New England sports fan, he was a season ticket holder for the Celtics (during The Garden’s heydays), Patriots, and a proud supporter of UMass basketball & football. Some of his best stories came from his memories as a UMass basketball team student manager during the Julius “Dr. J” Erving years. He enjoyed sharing his love of sports with his sons by taking them to see his favorite teams play, in addition to his Boston Park League All Star games at Fenway, where they served as bat boys.

He spent his childhood summers water skiing on Lake Winnipesaukee and his later years walking the Dennis beaches.

He is survived by his sons Craig, Derek and Doug; sister Dottie, brother-in- law Jerry, and nephew Steven Gulezian (Londonderry, NH); and his favorite grand dog, Wilson. Preceded in death by nephew, Mark Gulezian.
