Happy Birthday, Markie Dark! You will always be remembered, not just today, but every day.  We had great times in the over 43 yrs you were involved with my sister, Pauline. I will never forget Birchwood and the fun we had. I was more than just a babysitter on that trip! Pauline, you and the girls know that you can call me any time, even after 9:00, and I will be there to lend an ear or a shoulder. Anything I can ever do sister, just call and I will be there for you. Mark was a good addition to the family and will never be forgotten!

Mark was a person who really enjoyed his love of family, outdoors and work.  You knew how happy he was by how much grumbled.

He was a very selfless do-it yourself guy.  If anyone ever needed help with something, he would always be there for you, no matter what it was, big or small.  BUT, if you made the phone ring after 9:00 p.m., FORGET IT, you were on your own!

Mark’s family and friends all loved him in their own special ways.  

He always said his life would not be the same without his girls.  He was a dad who raised his daughters with a firm and loving hand.  He always found time to plan and spend weekend away on another adventure, allowing the kids to explore and experience their world.  He spent lots of fun times with them camping, weekends in Wautoma, fishing, hunting, playing cards and instilling in them the work hard and play hard way of living.  Though he may not have always said it out loud, his daughters knew he was really proud of what they had become.  They are who they are now because they had a father like Mark.  As most of you know, Mark didn’t always show his feelings.  But you would only need to see that look that told you that you did something great in his eyes and seeing him like that made you feel like you owned the world.
 
As his girls were growing up, he often told them that he wanted better for them than he had.  Now that his girls are grown up, they know that if they have in their life what their dad did, it will be a rich life.  He seemed to have it all: family, friends, love, fun and took pride in all he had and did in life.

Mark loved being outdoors and taking care of his yard to the point that it looked like a golf course.  The girls were always banned from riding their bikes on the grass.  With Mark, it always came down to the fun.  He was always planning when the next fun would be taking place.  He loved hunting, fishing, pulling the handle on the slot machines, bowling, golfing, and playing sheepshead with his best buddies.  He went on as many great hunting, fishing and vacation trips with friends as he could get away with.

He always told his daughters and co-workers that he was made of “spring-steel and tiger meat”.  When he learned that he couldn’t work anymore he broke down and cried.  Working at the hospital was a second home to him.

Mark’s grandchildren always put a twinkle in his eye.  He called Tyler, his “little buddy” or Tyler man and Brooke, his “little Brookey”.  He loved to spend time with them, laugh with them and raise his eyebrows and shake his head with a smile at all their silly antics.  He also opened his heart for everyone’s kids, whether it was step-grandkids, friend’s kids, nieces or nephews.  We think it was because they were silly and liked to have fun, just like him!

Mark also had a love for dogs and cats (he would deny the cat part though!).  He may have grumbled about them but he let them lick his ice cream bowl when he was done.

Mark and Pauline were married for 43 years.  They had special nicknames for each other.  He was Bigfoot and she was KitKat or Kittycat.  They were quite the pair, she would cook and bake and he would clean up the mess, grumbling about how she had to use every pot and pan in the house. They shared the fun and laughter in so many experiences throughout the years with each other.  They really enjoyed their times with each other and with family and friends.  They were able to travel to some great places together and share a lot of great memories.

Mark was always in search of that elusive, big buck.  As Janice, his oldest daughter, held his hand a few hours before his passing, and was thinking of their times together on their deer hunting trips, picturing him walking with her through the field with his orange knit cap rolled up high on his head, she looked out the window to the park across the street.  Just then, a big buck walked across the clearing, stopped, flagged its white tail and then walked into the woods.  A heart touching moment.

In the last month especially, Mark was in a lot of pain.  He gave it his all to fight the battle, but it was just too much.  He is now in a better place with no pain and where the fish are always biting.

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,

You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best

Dad, 
I love you and miss you so much!  You have made such a impact on my kids and my life.  You were always there for me no matter what.  I couldn't have asked for a better father.  You are my hero in so many ways.... I know it wasn't always easy with us three girls... but as you said... your life wouldn't have been the same without us.... I will rememeber all our good times and laughs.  I love you more than words can express.

With much sadness and heartache I had to say goodbye to a man that was very special to me. He treated me as one of his own, the 4th daughter for over 25 years. He was always there for me and my family no questions asked, just don’t call after 9:00 pm. I will be forever grateful for his love and acceptance. He will always be my special dad. In loving memory of a truly wonderful man, I will love and miss you always. It was an honor to have had you in my life.

We lost our best friend when we lost Mark. He was a wonderful man that would do anything for anyone. We will miss him everyday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

Mike and Mark were the cousins that I grew up with, back when we all lived on the South side of Milwaukee.  I will never forget the summer that I talked both of them into getting a Mohawk hair cut, and then I backed out at the last minute.  I remember aunt Stelle being really upset with me.

Over the years we have lost touch with each other, and for that I am truly sorry.  Mark, and his loved ones,  will be in our prayers forever.

I went thru grade school and high school with Mark and worked with him 44 years at St Luke's South Shore.  He will be missed.  I have been praying for him since I knew he was sick.  I will add his family to my prayers.

Grief can be so hard, but remembering our special memories helps us cope - thanks from my family for everyones support and condolences
