Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Otto J. and Jesse A. (Wittmeyer) Rummler. Ruth was a resident of Feasterville for 59 years, after having lived in Philadelphia during her formative years.
Ruth met her best friend, comrade-in-arms, and love of her life, Richard B. McMahon, on a blind date in June 1942. They were engaged on Ruth’s birthday in 1944, and married in June 1946 after Richard returned from a tour with the Merchant Marine during World War II. Their marriage, which flourished for more than 65 years, was an inspiration and a model to all who knew them.
Ruth was a homemaker dedicated to raising her two sons and running the household with both efficiency and grace. She was an excellent cook and baker, and also enjoyed sewing and doing crossword puzzles. She was a devout member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Feasterville where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of Martha’s Circle, a group of women who served the needy in a variety of capacities.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; two sons, R. Bruce McMahon, Jr., and his wife, Lorraine, of Doylestown, PA, and Mark McMahon and his wife, Lori, of Elburn, Illinois; three grandchildren, Erin Loch and her husband, Christian, of Berwyn, PA, Brett McMahon of New York, NY, and Kevin McMahon of New Orleans, LA; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Veronica Loch.
Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012. The service will be held at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 65 East Street Road, Feasterville, PA 19053.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s name to St. Stephen’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, One Intrepid Square, W. 46th Street and 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036.
