

Mr. Cayton was born November 5, 1945 in Little Washington, North Carolina. Bobby retired from Weyerhaeuser, where he was a general mechanic for over 30 years. He was a well respected employee who was known for his ability to fix anything and solve any problem. In 2023, he and his wife moved to Cambridge Crossing in Southport, where he and his canine companion Joey were well known and loved.
Bobby was born to Josh Boyd and Lelia Elks Boyd of Washington, North Carolina. Following the untimely death of Lelia in January of 1946, Bobby was adopted and raised by Lelia's sister and brother-in-law, Beadie Elks Cayton and Bennie Cayton. Bobby's life was filled with love and affection from two sets of siblings/cousins. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Scholz; his devoted son, Jeffery Cayton and wife Jani; sisters, Joyce Lewis, Dorothy Thomas, JoAnn Ghio, Estelle Clarke and Judy Dixon; and a brother, David Boyd.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 25, 2025 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel on Howe Street with Deacon John Charron officiating.
A reception will follow in the social hall of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Dosher Cut Off Road at noon.
