
Mr. Fletcher was born January 3, 1932 to the late Mead and Helen Fletcher. Chuck was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Submarine Fleet. He was part of the commissioning crew of the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear powered submarine. He was also aboard the vessel as it made the first voyage under the northern polar ice cap. His love of the water continued, he lived on or near the water for the remainder of his life. Mr. Fletcher remained in the nuclear power industry until his retirement.
Mr. Fletcher is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joy Fletcher; two sons, Gregg Fletcher and wife Vickie of Hickory, NC, and David Fletcher and wife Teresa of Hardy, VA; three granddaughters, Meredith, Cathy, and Kelly; six great-grandchildren, Brendon, Keara, Zachary, Logan, Jaycen, and Ethan; and his great-niece and nephew, Pat and Marvin Johnson. Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed Fletcher, Ben Weitzel, and Gordon Weitzel; and sisters, Loraine Ralson and Jane Murray.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Reverend Stuart Milton and Reverend Garrett Albertson officiating. A reception will follow the service in Murrow Hall.
