Cynthia "Cindy" Compton, 77, passed away on August 25, 2025, in Southport, North Carolina after 4 years of renal failure. Born on October 16, 1947, in Mount Holly, North Carolina, Cindy lived a life defined by strength, individuality, and a deep devotion to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, KT and Crosby Allen, a beloved brother Jim as well as her former spouse, Bill Compton. Her memory lives on through the many lives she touched with her unwavering spirit and heartfelt presence.
Cindy is survived by a daughter Laurie Watts and Laurie’s children—Ryan, Samantha, and Abi. She also leaves behind her “last chickie in the nest,” Katie Compton Boyd-who brought care and comfort throughout her life; son-in-law Andrew; and beloved grandson William Compton Stewart. Cindy, “Nana” shared a particularly close bond with William—a connection marked by tenderness and quiet understanding that brought comfort to them both. She endeavored to see him to high school and she did just that to the day!
Known for her fierce love and resilient nature, Cindy carried herself with a rare blend of staunchness and humor that left a lasting impression on those around her. In times of hardship or reflection, she often found solace in the words of a cherished hymn: “Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share but our toil he richly repay; not a grief or loss not a frown or a cross but is blest if we trust and obey.” These lines now serve as an enduring testament to the hope that sustained her throughout life.
May her memory bring peace to those who mourn her passing and inspiration to all who carry forward the love she so freely gave.
