He is survived by the love of his life, Annamaria, to whom he never said “No.” Surviving also are his sons, Shawn (Chrissy) Scott, of Atlanta, Georgia and Steven (Christine) Scott of New Troy, Michigan; his daughter, Francesca (Matt) Slaughter of Southport, North Carolina; and his six beautiful grandchildren: Katherine, Caroline, Anne, Matthew, John, and Michael. He also leaves many dear friends, all over the world.
He was born September 12, 1943, in Kirksville, Missouri. His parents, Ernest Willard and Lytha Belle Wharton Scott, preceded him in death.
He obtained two Masters Degrees, in physics and nuclear engineering, from the Rolla School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri. He worked for General Electric Nuclear Division for 35 years on various projects that took him around the world.
Ernie loved adventures, the ocean, sailing, and fishing with his family. He also loved fixing and building things - last winter he built his grandkids a snow machine so they could see snow at the beach. He was also eternally curious, regularly starting conversations with “What’s the story with…?”
He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors, who often called him for help with projects or when they were stumped.
The family will hold a private memorial, at a later date.
In Ernie’s memory, please practice random acts of kindness, which is how he lived his life.
The Scott Family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals at NHRMC for their compassionate care.
