Mrs. Carlsen was born August 14, 1937, daughter of the late Clarence and Daisy Reams. Frances was a veteran of the US Army. She was a lifelong member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). For 20 years, she served as an active member of the Brunswick Town Chapter of the NSDAR in Brunswick County and the American Legion Post 543 of Saint James, NC. Frances had served on the Naturalization Committee and Board of Directors for the NC Fourth of July Festival. She was a volunteer at the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office. Mrs. Carlsen actively supported the Wreaths Across America program, placing wreaths at the Wilmington National Cemetery each year.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Ted Carlsen; three step-daughters--Susan Klacik of Reading, PA, Christine Carlsen of Citrus Heights, CA, and Marianne Booth (and her husband Jeff) of Burke, VA; three grandchildren: Emma Booth, Anna Booth, and Tommy Booth, all of Burke, VA; nephews Darian Reams and wife Laura, of Celeste, TX, and Brian Reams and wife Mary, of Brookfield, MO.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Lee Reams; and a sister, Virginia Mae Reams.
Fran's life exemplifies love and service to others. She has never met a stranger; and she immediately welcomed others into her circle. Her service to others began early with her Army enlisted career, and carried on when she transitioned to her federal civilian career--mostly within the Pentagon. She just never stopped serving: family, friends, and colleagues. Her legacy of love and service lives on in all the lives she's touched. We will miss you, Fran.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, the 4th of January, 2024 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
