

She was preceded in Death by her mother and father, Josephine Pellitier Taylor and James Luther Taylor also her daughter Jeanne Walls in 1971 and her husband of 64 years, Frank Bishop Irving Sr. in 2003. Gertrude was also preceded in death by 12 of her 14 brothers and sisters, Wilber, Eckert, Elliott, Josephine, James Earl, Chester, James William, Lorraine, Otis, Leroy, Dillon, and Jonathan.
She is survived by two sons, Frank (Sue) Irving Jr. of Nakina, NC and Guilford (Jean) Irving of Leland NC, one brother, Lyman Taylor of Atlanta Ga. and one sister Kathleen Dodd of New Smyrna Beach, Fl. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, one hour prior to the service at the First Baptist Church of Oak Island NC. The service will be Wednesday July 20th 2016 at 11 am. Officiating will be Rev. Charlie Carter. Gertrude was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Island. Pallbearers will be the grand and great-grandchildren.
Following the service, internment will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington NC.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ocean Trail Nursing home in Southport NC and the staff of The Lower Cape Fear Hospice for all their kind words and help throughout the end of Gertrude’s life.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Gertrude, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Oak Island, 4608 E Oak Island Dr, Oak Island, NC 28465.
