

Mr. Walters was born May 13, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan, son of the late Oliver and Leone Marth Walters.
Mr. Walters was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1959 to 1961 on the USS Henley; and from 1961 to 1962 in the US Naval Reserves. He worked for Swan Ice Cream Company before joining Eaton Corporation of Saginaw, Michigan, where he retired after 32 years. Mr. Walters helped to form the first AMVETS Post on the east coast in Boiling Spring Lakes; he served as the Charter Commander of AMVETS Post 906. In 2008 he received the Commander’s award for leadership in the Boiling Spring Lakes Post. He looked forward to yearly reunions with his shipmates. James loved golfing with friends and traveling. He hosted an exchange student, Oriol Guevara, who lives in Ecuador but continues to be a part of his family. Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his brother Gary Walters.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Wheeler Walters of Boiling Spring Lakes, three sons, Gary Walters, Derek Walters, both of Florida, and Dallas Walters of Tennessee; a step-son Kenneth Nehls of Michigan, a stepdaughter Deborah of Tennessee; a sister Bonnie Walters of Michigan; seven grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Oak Island Moose Lodge.
