After a short illness, John Thomas Lehman passed on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. He is survived by his second wife, Kathy of Leland, NC, son Jonathan of Boone, NC, former daughter in law, Anna Lehman of Sugar Grove, NC and grandchildren Thomas Lehman (19) and Emma Lehman (16). He was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
John enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the furniture industry, working for many retailers and manufacturers over the years, as well as having his own interior design firm in Blowing Rock, NC. He was passionate about design, and his work is regarded as some of the best in the industry. John loved interior design and regarded folks from all over the furniture industry as his extended family.
John was involved in his church, Southport Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Boone, singing as a tenor in the choir, and, having a beautiful voice, he was well known for his solos. His kindness and generosity were known to all. He brought lots of laughter and used humor to reach others.
In 2014, John deeply mourned the death of Angela, his wife of 48 years. He was lucky to find love again and married Kathy in 2019. Their love was very tender and caring, often enjoying card games with friends, cooking, entertaining, and exploring the Southport lifestyle. She was by his side until he passed.
He was a fabulous father to Jonathan and a wonderful grandfather to Emma and Thomas. He was so proud of their accomplishments in and out of school and loved to say that his grandson is an Eagle Scout and black belt in karate as well as sharing his sense of humor and that his granddaughter had inherited his design abilities in her talented pursuits of knitting and crochet, even starting her own small business selling custom crochet creations and founding the Crochet Club at Watauga High School.
He found a daughter that he never had in his former daughter-in-law, Anna, teaching her his trade of interior design. They often consulted with one another on projects and had many shared interests beyond a love of design.
Services will be held at Southport Presbyterian Church on February 28, 2025 at 11 am and also at First Presbyterian Church of Boone, NC on March 8, 2025 at 2 pm.
John always appreciated great design, and we invite you to make donations in his memory to the Appalachian State Interior Design program at the link below.
