

Mr. McDonald was born April 23, 1944 in Caribou, Maine the son of the late Iris Begnomia Blanchette McDonald and Clement J. McDonald. John graduated from Caribou High School in 1963. After graduation, John enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Boiler Tender aboard the LST-1153 Talbott County during the Cuban Missile Crisis at Guantanamo Bay. He was a volunteer member of the Hanover Fire Department Station 46. John was also a member of the Goodwill Fire Company in Jacobus, PA Station 18 where he served as supervisor of the building and grounds committee. John previously worked as a maintenance supervisor in York, PA and owned and operated McDonald Management and Maintenance Company before retiring to Southport.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Fielder McDonald; two brothers, Thomas McDonald and Peter McDonald; and a sister, Helen McDonald.
Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife, Ruthie McDonald; five brothers, Francis McDonald, Michael McDonald, James McDonald, Clement J. McDonald, and Paul McDonald; and three sisters, Cathy Starr, Ruth McDonald, and Jeanne McDonald.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of the Brethren Home in Cross Keys, New Oxford, PA.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.
