Born on August 17, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Frank and Helen Kalchthaler, Larry went on to graduate from the University of California of Pennsylvania where he met the love of his life, Suzanne “Suzie” Davies Kalchthaler. Larry taught at Kiski Area High School and later worked for QSP, a division of the Reader’s Digest. They built a life together in Greensburg, PA for 23 wonderful years. In 2006, they followed their dream and made their home in Southport, NC.
Larry was the beloved husband and best friend to Suzie Davies Kalchthaler for 58 years, sharing a lifetime of love, laughter and unwavering support. Together, they raised two children: Clark Kalchthaler (Celia) of Streetsboro, Ohio and Leigh Kalchthaler Cupelli (Bob) of Sewickley, Pennsylvania. He was adored by his four granddaughters, affectionately known as “Larry’s Ladies”: Taylor Cupelli, Porter, Mila and Elliot Kalchthaler. He was preceded in death by his brother Bob, and survived by his sister-in-law, Carol, along with beloved nieces and nephews who always held a special place in “Crazy Uncle Larry’s” heart.
Larry showed us all how to love deeply and live in every moment. Though we have lost a piece of our hearts, we celebrate his beautiful life as a husband, wonderful dad, encouraging, kind and fun grandfather and friend. His legacy lives on in the love he gave, the faith he lived by and the lives he touched. His bright blue eyes will always twinkle in our memories.
In keeping with his wishes, no formal service will be held. Instead, we invite you to honor his memory in your own way – by sharing a favorite story, raising a glass or hitting the back nine.
