Mrs. McClain was born June 25, 1917 in Harnett County, the daughter of the late June and Maggie Smith.
Survivors include her son James McClain of Southport, daughter Mary Gardner of Wilmington, 22 grandchildren, Patricia, Nathaniel, Judy, Jerry, Harold, Ernest Jr, Martha, Eddie, Wanda, Phillip, Barbara, Richard, Kenneth, Pamela, Melanie, Kenneth, Neil, Sharona, Melanie, and Terri, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Preceding her in death was her husband Neil F. McClain, three sons, William Franklin McClain, Ernest McClain, and Samuel McClain, three brothers, Lewis Smith, Elmer Smith, and Charles Smith, and a sister Hettie Taylor.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 11, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Southport with Reverend Brian Monroe officiating.
