She died like she lived, in her own way. She was the daughter of the late Harry Thomas “Quack” Sanders and Catherine “Kit” Cox Sanders — two Southport legends in their own right, and Nancy carried their spirit (and their stubborn streak) proudly.
Nancy spent her life serving others, often looking after sick friends. She worked as an EMT with Southport Rescue and Long Beach Rescue, handling emergencies with calm confidence — and probably telling a few folks to “quit whining, you’ll live.” She gave of herself in time, sweat and tears. Later, she joined the Town of Oak Island, first as a police dispatcher and later in the Tax Office before retiring. No matter the job, she got things done and didn’t sugarcoat anything.
She is survived by her brother, Harry Thomas Sanders Jr. and his wife Pat; her children, Jeff Davis, Carrington Davis and wife Hana, and Harriet Davis and husband Eddie Beheler; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Nancy was honest, funny, and fiercely loyal to the people she loved. She told it like it was, worked hard, and had a heart big enough to hold her family, friends, and half of Brunswick County.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel. The family will have a visitation one hour prior to the service. Knowing Nancy, she’d want folks to laugh, tell good stories, and not make a big fuss.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Ln, SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
