Rev. Childs was born July 21, 1935 in Jacksonville, Texas the son of the late Robert R. Childs Sr. and Nola Travis Childs. He was a retired Presbyterian minister and attended St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. Rev. Childs received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and attended Seminary at Wake Forest University. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Meezie Childs.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Carter John Herring Childs and wife Melissa of Southport and Robert Carroll Travis Childs and wife Kathy of Mooresville; a brother William Childs of Texas; and three grandchildren, William Childs, Nadia Childs and Owen Childs.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Music Fund, 205 E Moore St, Southport, NC 28461.
