Bob was born in W. Easton, PA on October 11, 1941 to the late Lewis Ross Hazelton and Ida Ann Hazelton (nee Ehmer).
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of 51 years; son, Jodi and preceded in death by his son, Timothy. He will be greatly missed by his siblings Barbara Ann, Donald (Don), and Ronald (Ron) Hazelton, and sisters-in-law, Carol and Ann Hazelton, all of St. James Plantation.
Bob graduated from Wilson Borough High School, Easton PA, where he starred in basketball. He then completed a 2-year program at Williamsport Technical School in drafting prior to fulfilling his military service in the Far East. He went on to receive a BS from Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY in computer-aided drafting and later earned a MS in Industrial Arts from Trenton State College, NJ.
Bob's life featured two distinct careers. He retired after teaching computer-aided drafting at Plainfield, NJ high school for 30 years. During this time he remodeled kitchens, often making the countertops and cabinets himself. After retiring to St. James in 1999, he began his second career as a licensed NC home builder and has built about 25 homes, including several rental properties. All feature his high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. In his client relationships, Bob valued his word and he considered this to be driving force behind what he delivered. He loved his daily interactions with local contractors- many referred to him as "Bob the Builder."
Bob was an avid sports fan, basically following all sports that involved a ball that bounced- but especially football and basketball. He was an avid Giants fan and loved March Madness. He enjoyed golfing in St. James. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends to all locations near and far. He liked dogs, and over time owned a succession of Collies.
Bob liked to tease and provoke debate, but deep down was kind and generous. In particular, he liked to haggle with car salesmen over the price of their offerings. He was always available to help friends resolve troublesome homeowner issues such as adding a sunroom or altering a cabinet or recommending a specific contractor for follow-up work.
The Hazelton family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to all who loved Bob, brought him joy, and laughed with him.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 12PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, NC.
