

He was a veteran of the US Navy and worked as District Sales Manager with Estes Express Lines of Greensboro. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Oak Island in 2006. He was a member of Oak Island Evangelist Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hartsell was an avid reader, passionate golfer, and part time fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Carolyn W. Hartsell, daughter Vicky Davis and husband Allan Davis of Graham, sons; Gary Hartsell of Randleman and Scott Hartsell of Kernersville, grandsons; Jack Davis and Steven Davis, brothers; Jerry Hartsell and his wife Janet of Greensboro, Randell Hartsell and his wife Sharon of Lyman SC, brother-in-law Douglas Gray of Oak Island, sister-in-law; Brenda Saunders and Cindy Lawson both of Greensboro, as well as many Nieces and Nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 1st at the Oak Island Evangelist Presbyterian Church with Dr. Walter Taylor presiding. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, American Heart Association, or O.I.E.P. Church.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the nurses at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Dr. McNulty and the staff of Cape Fear Cancer Specialist, Wilmington Health and especially Katie Monroe for the excellent care they provided for Steve.
