

Sylvia Gail Hornick, age 81, passed away at peace with God, December 31, 2021. She was surrounded by family, at Life Care Hospice in Bolivia, NC. She was born June 2, 1940, in Cumberland, MD. She was the eldest of four siblings.
Sylvia was a devoted wife and mother. She was very active in her sons’ lives as they grew up, and spent most of her time at their ball games. After they graduated high school, she started her own restaurant and catering business in Garner, NC. She successfully catered throughout Raleigh, NC and surrounding areas. She retired with her husband Gene in St James Plantation in 1998. She enjoyed dancing, tennis, golf, going to the beach and going on cruises. She became well known in St. James for her Kentucky Derby Parties.
She cherished her time spent with her five grandchildren: Brandon, Haylee, Lauren, Dean, and Cole. A lot of her time was spent attending their golf tournaments, swim meets, dance competitions, and plays.
She is survived by, and was devoted to, Gene, her husband of 62 years, and their two sons Brad (Dannyelle) and Trevor, her sister Penny (Jim) Botti; 2 sister-in-laws Wanetta Miller and Loraine Scott; in addition to her 5 grandchildren she had 8 nephews; Jeff and Randy (Kelly) Miller, Brett (Dar’), and Craig (Dianne) Scott, Louis (Karen) Botti, O.J. (Liz), Ryan, and Howard III (Stephanie) Carolan; 4 nieces, Shari (Ron) Beitzel, Lori (Jeff) Miller, Jodi (LeRoy) Miller, and Cassi Botti; 11 grandnieces, Jenna and Julie McCoullgh, Alyssa and Eliza Scott, Angela, Kathryn, and Jane Botti, Michal Ann Kessinger, Olivia, Ver and (her namesake) Sylvia Carolan; 8 grandnephews; Josh Mcollough, Ryan, Matt, Randall, Truman, and Nathaniel Miller, Rylan Kessinger, and Owen Carolan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Mary Carolan, her 2 brothers; Howard (Karen) and Orman (Nancy) Carolan, and niece Chelsie Carolan.
Sylvia received The Last Rites and prayed The Penitent Sinners Prayer with her family and Pastor while in Hospice.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, January 9, 2022 @ 1:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport, NC. And may be observed live at http://www.SouthportTrinityUMC.com
