

Toby-Simmons (Berkman), Lenore, of Aventura, passed away January 12, 2021. Lenore lived her 90 years with a zest for life that embraced love of family, friendship, and philanthropy. Lenore was born January 18, 1931 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to Eva and Albert Berkman. She is survived by her brother Marvin (Jen) Berkman and preceded in death by her sister, Charlotte (Berkman) Fisher. In 1994, Lenore married her beloved husband, Dr. Bernard Simmons and since that time has been a cherished member of the Simmons family including son Albert (Jennifer) Simmons, daughter Jil (Bart) Blatstein and six grandchildren (Ryan, Jenna, Hailey, Courtney, Andrew & William) and 4 great-grandchildren.
Lenore was an accomplished and savvy executive who helped put Miami Beach on the map as an international tourism destination. After a career in tourism, Lenore’s passion for the arts took centerstage. Working with the Concert Association of Florida, Lenore succeeded in bringing world-renowned stars to Miami. As a life-long learner, Lenore loved to take art lessons. She was an accomplished artist, creating a series of paintings during the pandemic she titled “Lockdown Lenore.”
Lenore was passionate about helping others through her charity work with groups such as the Love and Hope Ball (Diabetes Research Institute and Foundation), Citizens Interested in Arts, Inc., and many more.
Most of all, Lenore was a fount of love for her family and friends.
