She was born in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of Raymond O. and Gladys (Metzler) Vetter. She was a resident of Sparta, NJ, for over 50 years.
Beth grew up in Glen Rock, NJ, and graduated from St. Elizabeth’s University in Morristown, NJ, in 1968 with a degree in English. Beth had a successful career in the telecommunications field as a writer, editor, and communications specialist at Bell Labs, AT&T, Avaya and Philips. She retired in the mid-2000s.
Beth was married to Norman J. Meier, for 31 years, and together they had their daughter, Liz. Remaining in Sparta, Beth stayed active with St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and the Sparta Women’s Club where she had leadership and volunteer roles for many years, serving local organizations such as the Sparta Community Food Pantry and Family Promise.
Beth was a selfless individual, always putting others first, advocating for those who couldn’t advocate for themselves. She was an incredible cook and loved to make food for those who were sick, in need, and to build communities of friends. Beth was also a steadfast supporter of the arts at the local and national levels; if you knew Beth and you were performing, it was guaranteed that she would be in the audience.
In addition to her parents, Beth was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jo. Surviving are her daughter, Liz (Meier) King, son-in-law Todd King, and grandsons Tyler and Josh; brothers Raymond Vetter and his husband Roger Short of Tuscon, AZ, and Matthew Vetter of Santa Fe, NM; sister Christine (Vetter) Spielberger and her husband, Fred, of Southport, NC, and nieces Tracy (Spielberger) Frerichs and her husband, Brian, and Gail Spielberger, both in the Raleigh, NC, area; and her ex-husband, Norman J. Meier of Prescott, AZ. In addition to her family, Beth leaves behind many friends who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will take place at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Sparta, NJ, later this spring. Those who wish to remember Beth in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Sparta Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 867, Sparta, NJ, 07871.
