Harvey S. Beckman, MD

Harvey S. Beckman was born to Ruth and Jack Beckman on June 30, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY. He passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025 at the age of 81 after a long period of illness following a severe stroke in 2022.

Harvey was a resident of Sparta for the past 40 years. He is the oldest child of Jack and Ruth Beckman. His family resided in Dover, New Jersey during his childhood years before moving to Bayshore Long Island. He attended BayShore High School and then Adelphi University on Long Island majoring in Pre-Med.

Harvey loved the beach and fishing on Long Island. After graduating Adelphi University, Harvey traveled overseas and attended la Universidad de Barcelona. He earned his medical degree in Barcelona, Spain. During his time studying medicine he also enjoyed playing the very physical game of Rugby in Barcelona.

Harvey returned to the US and earned his license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of New Jersey. He continued his medical education by completing a residency in Digestive Diseases with New Jersey Medical School and then went on to open his own Gastroenterology practice in Sussex County. He practiced out of the former Wallkill Valley Hospital which was eventually taken over by St. Clares Hospital before closing.

Harvey loved spending his leisure time fishing whenever weather permitted. He enjoyed boating on Lake Mohawk and Lake Hopatcong on the family boats. During the winter months he enjoyed skiing and as a spectator he enjoyed Football and Ice Hockey. He was an animal lover and enjoyed watching episodes of Dr. Pol and Dr. Jeff. His home with his family in Sparta was never without one or two dogs and an occasional cat. He especially enjoyed watching all three of his sons play travel ice hockey. In recent years he enjoyed trips to Deerfield Beach spending hours on the fishing pier waiting for whatever would bite.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Maureen, sons, Kirk (Ashley) Beckman, Brett Beckman, Lance Beckman, his grandsons Brennan and Dylan Beckman, and his sisters Diane Beckman and Shari Bernard. He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Ruth Beckman and his brother, Stuart.

A memorial visiting will be held at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ, 07871 on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Harvey's memory to St. Judes and/or The American Heart Association.
