To the Goodwin Family,

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Goodwin's passing. Here is one more former youth who owes him an incomparable debt. It was under his coaching I learned discipline, perseverance, and the ethics of fair play. He was always demanding, always charitable. He did not coddle; was never miserly of praise. His goal, as I see it, was to evolve us, year by year, challenging our notion of limitations. In this he inspired a scrawny, undersized youth - just one of many - in the pursuit of excellence. The true definition of a leader, surely. I might not remember the drills as clearly, or the half-time pep talks meant to keep us plodding through a driving rain, but the self-belief I remember - the self-belief Mr. Goodwin imparted, through deed and gesture, that we were more than the sum of our ungainly parts. That we could kick above our weight class, so to speak. And always should. Perhaps it's enough to say I never respected, nor admired, a man more.

Dear Goodwin Family,

I am very sorry for your loss.  Mr. Goodwin was everything you could ask for in a coach and mentor.  He taught us respect, hard work, and integrity.  I am grateful for every lap he made me run as it made me stronger and more resilient well beyond the soccer field. Take comfort in the certainty that his impact and legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the generation we are now raising.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I working with Jim for over 15 years at the Cumberland Insurance Group where he served as our auditor.He was an outstanding professional and a true gentleman and he will be very missed by our officers and employees. We will continue to keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Jack and I were so sorry to hear about Jim's passing.  We will always cherish the memories we had with Jim and Janet when we lived in Sparta. Jim always had a smile on his face and a good one liner to say.  He had a quick wit, he was a great husband, really enjoyed being a dad and granddad.  We were blessed to know Jim Goodwin he was a great man.

I was always catching Jim in different places, whether he was zooming into the City to see a play, counting telephone poles, sweeping snow off the roof or on the other coast. I am sure  if I called his cell now, I would get him in heaven.

Dear Janet,

We were shocked and terribly saddened to hear of Jim's passing.  Jim was one of those people who always had a smile on his face and in his eyes.  He made working with him a pleasure. Please accept the sincere condolences from the Cook family.
