

John Nicholas Castellucci, M.D., F.A.C.S.; 78, of Sparta, New Jersey and Palm City, Florida, passed away on April 16, 2017. Dr. Castellucci, born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Diane M. Castellucci née Siesto of Brooklyn, NY; and three daughters from his first marriage; Barbara Buckley-Nesbitt (Ted) of Charleston, SC, Celene Pumphrey (Andrew) of Madison, VA; and Domenica de Fazio of Mountain Lakes, NJ. He is also survived by his two younger brothers, Anthony Castellucci (Diane) of Sparta, NJ, and Joseph Castellucci (Veronica) of Marlboro, NJ; his sister-in-law Patricia Castellucci (wife of his elder brother, the late Angelo "Sonny" Castellucci); and three stepchildren from his wife's first marriage; Diane LoPinto (Christopher), Jennifer Green (Edward) and Christopher Boscarino. Dr. Castellucci was a proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren: Benjamin, Bridget, Brandi, Nick, Isabella, Gianluca, Avellina, Arthur, Megan, and Brooke; and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dr. Castellucci spent his childhood in Jersey City, New Jersey, as the second of four sons to the late Domenico and Orselina Castellucci. He earned his undergraduate degree at St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ, obtained his M.D. from Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry in Jersey City, NJ, and completed his medical internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. He was then drafted into the United States Army, serving honorably as a Captain in the Medical Corps in Thailand during the Vietnam conflict. After returning from the service, Dr. Castellucci completed his medical training with a Residency in Ophthalmology at Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Hospital. He opened his Ophthalmology practice, first in Kinnelon, NJ; shortly thereafter moving his office to Butler, NJ, where he remained for the duration of his well-respected and successful 37 year career in Ophthalmology. Dr. Castellucci at one point served as Chief of Surgery, and later Chief of Staff; at the former Riverside Hospital in Boonton, NJ; and later performed the majority of his eye surgeries at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains, NJ.
Dr. Castellucci was a humble, hard-working, and devoted family man; well-known as a proud American and supporter of veterans. He was beloved by his patients, many of whom also entrusted their children and grandchildren to his care over the years. Dr. Castellucci was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Lake Mohawk Golf Club. He was also vastly knowledgeable in military history, and traveled the world with his family to honor fallen heroes and observe where military history took place. Dr. Castellucci is best known as a loyal and wise advisor, a faithful friend, and an empathetic supporter to those who had the pleasure to know and love him. Wake and funeral services to honor Dr. Castellucci's life will be held at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street in Sparta, NJ. The wake will be on Friday, April 28th from 2:00-4:00 PM, and 7:00-9:00 PM. The memorial service will be on Saturday, April 29th at 11:00 AM.
