

Maureen graduated from Indiana State University of Pennsylvania in 1950 with her bachelor’s of science degree in home economics. Maureen taught Home Economics for over 28 years in the Hamburg, Frankford and Franklin school systems retiring in 1983. She was a beloved teacher by many students in Sussex County. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, League of Women Voters, and the Sussex County Retired Teachers Association. She volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Karen Ann Quinlan Friends of Hospice, St. Mary’s Church Alter Guild, Manna House, Meals on Wheels and the Center for Prevention and Counseling. She also created Quilts of Valor for injured soldiers. Those that knew Maureen would agree that she believed that like the sun that gently touches the face of every flower, God touches our lives with his care.
She was predeceased in 1985 by husband Thomas L. Komlo. She is survived by her loving children, Daniel Komlo and his wife, Cynthia; Rebecca Carlson and her husband, Thor; Robert Komlo and his wife Kathryn; and Thomas Komlo and his wife, Debbie. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Friends may call on April 20 from 4:30-7:30 PM at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 85 Conestoga Trail in Sparta.
