He was the son of Joseph M. Convey and Gertrude Kelly. He had three siblings, his older brother Joe, his sister Kay and baby brother Ray. He attended Our Lady of Angels grammar school in Bay Ridge as part of an intimate school population in just one parish of almost 2000 kids! He then followed in his brother’s footsteps and attended LaSalle High School in Manhattan.
Eventually Tom settled in at Equitable Life Insurance in New York City. He retired from there after 40 years. With his coworkers, he bowled every week in Port Authority Bus Terminal, played softball in Central Park and traveled to various countries on different tours. On one memorable family trip, he traveled with his siblings and sister-in law Liz to Ireland. Once there he kissed the Blarney stone and the rest of us were doomed.
After 60 plus years in Brooklyn, Tom got his passport stamped and moved to Sparta, New Jersey. He enjoyed his time with the people and activities at Knoll Village and Heights. He joined the Knights of Columbus and found his true calling working bingo on Thursday nights.
Tom was an avid sports fan starting with the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field. He has survived many seasons of despair with the NY Mets and NY Giants. He was a big fan of Eli Manning and the ‘69 Mets.
Tom was the classic Oscar Madison bachelor with one big difference. He had an incredibly kind heart.
He enjoyed his flock of nephews and nieces, Kevin, John, Jean, Tim, Mike, Eileen, Maureen, Ellen, Colleen, Ray, Ryan and Laura. Tom loved to watch them grow and was thrilled as each married and added children of their own.
Tom is survived by his brothers Joe and Ray Convey and his sister Kay O’Handley, sister in law Pat, 12 nephews and nieces, 33 great nephews and nieces as well as 4 great great nieces and nephews. He will be missed!
In his final days, Tom was at Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice in Fredon and his family is very grateful for the care he received.
