Tom McIntyre Sr.

Tom was born August 30, 1955 and spent most of his life in Sparta. He graduated from Sparta High School and then received his AAS in Bio Lab Technology from CCM, AAS in Fire Science Technology from SCCC, and BS in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Tom dedicated over four decades of service to Sandoz/Novartis, where he retired as a fire chief after 42 and a half years. His commitment to serving the community was further evidenced by his 50 years as a member of the Sparta Volunteer Fire Department, 22 years as Sparta Fire Marshal, 17 years as Assistant Sussex County Fire Marshal, and 10 years as an instructor at Sussex County Fire Academy.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Tom was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a skilled taxidermist, member of the GSTA, craftsman, great cook, and a witty comedian who could crack up an entire room with a great one-liner.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary; his children, Tom Jr. (Amanda), Michael (Alyssa), and Katie (Barton); and his grandchildren Maddie, Kenzi, and Brady. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Elizabeth.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Goble Funeral Home 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871 on Saturday, December 28th, from 11AM - 12PM. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery 32 Main St., Sparta, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sparta Fire Department in Tom’s memory.
