

She graduated from Pescadero Elementary School in June of 1950, and Santa Cruz High School in 1954 as an Honor Student in Art. In November of 1954 she enlisted in the Air Force and served until she was honorably discharged on November 9th, 1956. During her service she met and married Eugene J. Budny and they married on October 21st 1955 in Jackson County, Mississippi and were married for 52 years until Eugene's passing in 2008. The couple had 3 children: Joseph Budny, Michael Budny, & Dianna Budny/Bruhn
Altha loved art and painting and pursued her passion into her later years. Altha strived to achieve training and certifications in her art. She has a diploma of achievement from North Light Art School in "The Fine Arts of Painting and Drawing" in 1990. Altha achieved another diploma from MCI Western Business College for "Design and Publication" for the Graphic Arts Industry in 1992. In 1996, she completed another Diploma from the Institute of Children's Literature for Special Publishing. She used her art education to produce digital artwork for children's books, many water color paintings, chalk drawings, and oil and acrylic paintings. She belonged to the Spokane Watercolor Society and has shown her many paintings in public displays at Libraries and the CenterPlace at Mirabeau Park Senior Center.
She is survived by her brothers and sister: Bill Saffeels, Joe Saffeels, Bob Saffeels, and Anne Saffeels/Evans
Altha is survived by her 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren:
Son Joe Budny, his daughter Joleen, and her 3 children. His daughter Jillianne and her 1 child.
Son Micheal Budny, his son Matthew, and daughter Julia.
Daughter Dianna Bruhn, and her daughter Jeannette who has 3 children. Her daughter Sandy who has one son. And her daughter Paula, and her Son Brandon.
