Amelia Vidal, 73 years of age, was born on July 11, 1937 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. She grew up very poor in a family of seven children. Amelia came to the U.S. in 1957 and settled in the Bronx, New York, where she gave birth to her only child, Madeline. She worked as a seamstress in New York for 20 years. In 1968 she met and married her true love, Jose Vidal. They lived happily in New York until 1999, when Amelia and Jose moved to Spokane, Washington to be closer to her daughter Madeline, her husband John and her two granddaughters, Adrienne and Tina. After a few years of living in Spokane she began showing signs of Alzheimer’s and within a few years was a resident at North Central Care Center, a nursing home where she was cared for by the wonderful people who worked there. Amelia’s smile will be missed terribly by all those who came into contact with her. She is survived by her husband, Jose Vidal, daughter Madeline Gore and her husband John, her granddaughters Adrienne and Christina Gore, sisters Blanca Maldonado, Aurea Perez, Carmen de la Rosa, Maria Gonzalez and several nieces and nephews.
