Art was born in Farmersville, OH on April 15, 1938 and was raised in Sunnyside, WA. Even though he only received an 8th grade education, he later persevered and earned his GED at the age of 44. At the age of 17, he joined the US Navy, serving a two year term. Art and Clara were married in Sunnyside in 1958 and eventually moved with their four children to White Sulphur Springs, MT where they lived for 15 years before moving to Spokane, WA.
Art worked hard throughout his life beginning with picking asparagus as a youngster, working at sawmills in Montana and Washington, driving semi-trucks nationwide, and driving a local school bus. Art was also very talented and portrayed this through his many hobbies including auctioneering, woodworking, painting, gardening, ceramics, fly-fishing and fly-tying, and leatherwork. He took great pride in his gardening and won many awards for the flower arrangements he created, including Best of Show at a flower show in Boise, and Best of Show at the Spokane County Fair. Art was also a member of the Diamond City No. 7 Masons and had just been awarded his 50-year pin.
Art is survived by his loving wife Clara after 65 years of marriage; four children Bob Ross, Rona Post, Jack Ross, and Melinda Barnes and his five grandchildren: Christa, Joseph, Monika, Aimee, and Willie.
We will miss him greatly.
Funeral will take place August 31st at 9:45am at the State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. A reception will follow at 1pm at the Newman Lake Grange.
