

Betty Lucille (Pierce) Maki passed away on September 1, 2023 in Spokane Valley. Betty was born on February 23, 1941 to Louis and Betty Pierce in Northport, Washington. She was raised in Northport with her five siblings. Betty was best known by many family and friends as “Betty Lou”. She attended Northport High School, graduating in 1959. She would marry Melvin Maki on September 26, 1959. They would live in the Northport area as well as Tekoa, Washington before settling in Spokane Valley. Sadly, Betty and Melvin would lose a daughter at birth and have two sons that would precede them in death.
Betty ran an in-home daycare, in the foothills of Spokane, for nearly 40 years. Many families entrusted her to care for their children. Some of those children would later return and work for Betty. Betty and Melvin enjoyed taking cruises with family and friends. They would also enjoy traveling in their motor home. Betty Lou’s favorite pastime was going to the local casinos. She spent many Sundays playing her favorite machine.
Betty is survived by her grandchildren Melynda Maki, Tera Brulotte-Maki (Randy), Tim Floyd (Alissa), Toby Floyd (Becca). Great grandchildren Tessla and Trevor Floyd and a daughter-in-law Cindy Maki. She is also survived by a brother Ralph Pierce (Sally), sister Patti Marie Buchignani (Len) in addition to many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin, sons Rodney and Todd, parents Louis and Betty along with her sister Charlotte Olmstead and brothers Chuck and Fred Pierce.
The service for Betty will be on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA. Betty will be laid to rest at Forest Home Cemetery in Northport, WA, Monday, September 11, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
