

Passed away March 16, 2013 in Spokane, WA. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Ackerman and grandson Chris Ackerman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Mumford and his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Mumford. Dale was born August 7, 1923 in Ogden, Utah. He was in the Air Force from 1940-1943 and was at one time a co-pilot for Howard Hughes. He moved to Burbank, CA where he met Jackie, his wife of 53 years. Dale was transferred to Seattle, WA, only living there a year. He was then transferred to Spokane, WA in 1961 and moved to Spokane Valley in 1969. Dale worked for the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and retired in 1984, but continued to work independently after that. He earned the Charles Taylor Award for “Master Mechanic”, the highest award given to a civilian. You must have 50 years in Aviation Maintenance to qualify for this prestigious award. He was a member of the Valley Elks and Valley Eagles, and he loved going to Spokane Indians games. A special thank you goes out to the staff at The Gardens on University and to Spokane Hospice House for all the care they showed to him. Dale will be missed by many. What a wonderful father and grandfather.
Visitation will be tonight, Wed. March 20, 2013 from 5:00-8:00PM, there will be a Rosary with a pictorial memory video to follow, this evening at 5:30pm at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home 1306 N. Pines Rd. Spokane Valley. Funeral Mass will be held Thurs. March 21, 2013 at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 304 S. Adams Rd. Spokane Valley, WA. Interment with military honors will follow at Pines Cemetery in Spokane Valley.
