To my favorite family,

I know that you guys are a super close family, it reminds me of my family. I cannot imagine how you guys are trying to get through this. You are a strong family and I know you will. I’ll never forget back in mine and Jackie’s soccer days and Derrick and the other little brothers would be running around the field and they were so funny. I saw Derrick about 3 years ago at the Gorge and we chatted for a bit! He was such a great person. I love you all so much, will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

 Derrick brought so much joy to my life. I will love and remember him forever. I have truly never met a more wonderful kind and caring young man. I sincerely want to thank you for your friendships over the years and for sharing Derrick and your lives with me. I was blessed beyond measure to have known him, worked with him, share my life with him. He always made me feel special and cared for. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.

My memories of Derrick are the pictures his mom, Cassie showed us in water aerobics class. He was on his jet ski or the motorcycle. His mom was so proud of him. He was growing into a wonderful man. He loved his sisters and his parents. He enjoyed being around his nephews and niece. May God’s loving arms care for everyone who is grieving the loss of Derrick right now.

Bobby and I are heart broken. Derrick was a wonderful young man and a brother in Christ. Our prayers go out to you both.

I love the pride I saw in Moms memories she shared in class. The pride she took in how proud she was of the man you were becoming. Our prayers are with all of your family as they are healing during their time without you in their lives as a brother son, uncle, friend. God put his arms around all. 

Words can't describe how sad I am right now.

Derrick and I haven't connected in years, but this news hit me like a brick.

Derrick and I grew up in lovely Liberty Lake together, and though we weren't the best of friends, I have nothing but fond memories of him and the times we shared.

We played little league baseball together. Practice was near the Pavilion, near Jacob Amini's and Brett Balogh's houses. He was a  powerfully competitive kid, and if my memory serves me correctly, he was one of the staples on the team. My dad always commented on how fast he was, saying that he "had some wheels on him." And it's true: Derrick was quick fast. 

You know those kids that you thought were cool growing up? Derrick was one of those kids to me. 

Derrick will be remembered for his infectious, bright, beaming smile, and his deeply concentrated soul. What a giant spirit he had.

My deepest thoughts and prayers to his family and friends during this difficult season in life.
