Edna Louise Godley, a loving mother, grandmother, and passionate community member who was often ahead of her time, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Spokane Valley, Washington, at the age of 92. She was born on June 14, 1933, in Post Falls, Idaho, to Fred and Minnie Hoadley.
Edna's life story began with humble roots. After her birth in Post Falls, Edna's family eventually moved to Oregon, shaping her early years. Her connection to the land started early; as a child, she was a dedicated member of 4-H and often spoke fondly of the prized cows and sheep she raised and showed.
At the age of 17, June 3, 1951, Edna married Hugh W. Grim, Jr., age 19 from Echo, Oregon, and together they raised four children: Judy, James, Freda, and Ronald. Following their divorce in the early 1980s, Edna married Edwin Godley on January 6,1991. This union brought together a blended family, including Edwin’s four children: Daniel, Patrick, Georjana, and Angelique Godley.
Creative Spirit and Active Life
Edna lived life with remarkable energy and enthusiasm, finding outlets for her passions in community and creation. She possessed a wonderful creative spirit, evidenced by the beautiful, hard-to-replace dresses she made for her daughters, and her joy of candle making, baking, oil painting and cake decorating.
Her life truly revolved around her profound love of square dancing, a passion that led her to own a small business selling specialized apparel to dancers and to actively participate in planning many events.
Edna also shared an adventurous side with her second husband, Edwin. They were members of the GWTA Gold Wing Touring Association. She rode the Honda Gold Wing with Edwin many times, thoroughly enjoying the rallies and camaraderie with other riders.
Edna was a dedicated community member, active with the Strider organization of Spokane Valley and received numerous awards for her participation in events, including Spokane's famous annual Bloomsday. Edna was also quietly dedicated to the environment, recycling newspapers and rinsing aluminum foil. She found great joy in the natural world, loving flowers, animals, and birds, and enjoyed decorating and socializing for every season.
Enduring Love
Edna will be remembered for how much she enjoyed bringing friends and families together for the holidays.
In recent years, Edna was affected by the onset of dementia. Though remembering events and faces may have faded at times, her enduring desire and love for family remained constant. With every visit and phone call in her final months and years, she reminded us of how much she appreciated just talking and visiting. Her love became even more apparent with each passing day. It is comforting knowing she is now at peace.
