July 10, 1930 – January 10, 2026
Florestine “Flurry” Snyder, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, educator, and spirited Cougar fan, passed away peacefully at her home in Spokane, Washington, at the age of 95. She was surrounded by family in her final moments, just as she had surrounded so many others with love, energy, and encouragement throughout her remarkable life.
Born on July 10, 1930, in Richland, Oregon, Flurry was the youngest of six sisters and grew up in Woodland, Washington. She attended WSU, where she made her mark as one of the few four-year letterman cheerleaders. It was at WSU that she met the love of her life, Al Snyder, a standout basketball player. Flurry graduated summa cum laude and went on to earn a master’s degree in science, later completing her administrative credential at Whitworth.
Flurry dedicated her professional life to education, serving as a teacher and counselor at East Valley High School. Her impact on students was profound—she was known for her high standards, unwavering support, and belief in the potential of every young person she encountered.
A lifelong supporter of WSU, Flurry was a proud booster, a member of the WSU Athletic Committee, and a loyal season ticket holder. She loved cheering on her Cougs in person. Her passions extended beyond the classroom and the stadium—she was an avid golfer, a devoted member of Millwood Presbyterian Church, and a radiant presence at social gatherings. Whether traveling, entertaining, shopping, or simply basking in the sunshine, Flurry embraced life with enthusiasm and style. She was known for her impeccable fashion sense, her commitment to fitness, her legendary pies, and her generous heart.
Flurry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Al Snyder. She is survived by her second husband, Stuart Davis; her children, Ann Snyder Mendes and Greg Snyder (Rosalia); her six grandchildren—Allyson, Kanyon, Madison, Mikayla, Harrison, and Jackson; and her three great-grandchildren—Kenzley, Adalynn, and Lucien.
A private family tribute will be held in the coming months to celebrate Flurry’s extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Washington State University Athletics in her honor (https://wsucougars.evenue.net/give - comments “In memory of Flurry Snyder”).
Flurry’s legacy of excellence, warmth, and spirited determination lives on in all who knew and loved her.
