Husband to Geraldine Sarff, father to Hal, Larry and Andrew Sarff, father in law to Brynn Sarff, survived by grandchildren Emily, Charise, Andrew, Natalie, Paisliee, Tessa, Jenna, Riley, and Great Grandchild Rylinn. Born in Motley, Minnesota on Saint Patrick’s Day 1935, he is Son of Ross and Mary Sarff (deceased), son in law of Howard and Mary McCauley (deceased), and survived by one sister, Lillian Noble and proud Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Motley, Minnesota, he moved to the Spokane Valley as a teenager, where he owned and operated his own saw mill in North Spokane. After being drafted to the U.S Army, he was stationed in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan where he met his wife, Geraldine, at McCauley’s Hotel on Lake Superior, in Ontario, Canada. They were married May of 1961 and once he was discharged from the Army, they made their home in Canada for approximately 4 years. In 1966, they moved to Spokane Valley and raised their family.
Harold was a heavy equipment Mechanic for most of his life, working on the Alaska Pipeline and for several power line construction companies in the Pacific Northwest, eventually running his own heavy equipment repair company. Along with his wife, Geraldine, and his three sons, Harold helped build and operate several successful senior housing communities including Broadway Court Estates, Colonial Court Assisted Living, and Colonial Care, serving families in the Spokane valley for over thirty years. Harold has been happily semi -retired since 1990, enjoying his lovely wife and family, especially at his small cabin on Priest Lake, where he looked forward to the summer time gatherings of his family and friends.
As a family, we would like our father to be remembered as a very caring, generous, and hardworking man, and in his words “honest as the day is long.” Visitation for Harold will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 12:00 PM until 4:00PM at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, November 14, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams, Spokane Valley, WA.
