She was born to Ralph and Alice Lamb on April 5, 1924 in Spokane, Washington. She graduated from West Valley High School in 1943. Married to Herman E. Hendrikson soon after graduation, they had two children - David Hendrikson (wife Susan) and Janice Hendrikson-Meekcoms who blessed Jean and Herm with grandchildren Ashley Alm (husband Jason), Chelsey Startup (husband Seth), Briana Sersen (husband Stano) and Aaron Meekcoms. Jean was preceded in death by her parents - Ralph and Alice Lamb, beloved stepmother – Olga Lamb, husband – Herm Hendrikson, sister – Ruth Meigs and brother – Glen Lamb. She is survived by her sister - Helen Brown (husband Richard) of Vancouver, WA and James Lamb (wife Victoria) of Port Townsend, WA.
Jean worked in local restaurants until she and Herm opened the Minute Maid Hamburger Drive-in on Sprague. They worked side-by-side in the restaurant and soon expanded to open two locations of
Mr. Magic car washes. However, her predominant job was that of a homemaker. She managed a beautiful home and was an extraordinary cook as all who enjoyed her culinary creations can attest. Her most beloved job of all was that of being a mom and grandmother. In later years, she experienced immense joy sharing time and laughter with her great-grandchildren Carson Alm, Ava Alm, Sawyer Startup and Sloane Startup. They were such blessings to her with their antics, photographs, gifts and artwork.
Jean and Herm shared a wonderful life in abundance with family and their large group of friends. They spent summers at their beloved cabin on Priest Lake and winters between their condo on Maui and their park model in Mesa, Arizona when not at their home in Spokane. At each location they enjoyed golf, sightseeing, dancing, parties, entertaining and time with their loved ones.
Jean fought valiantly to be present in celebration of her 100th birthday on April 5, 2024. Sadly, her body was not able to sustain that wish.
A private family celebration of life to honor our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend will be held on what would have been that remarkable milestone of 100 vibrant years.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Osprey at Carnahan AFH and Horizon Hospice and Palliative Care of Spokane who cared for our loved one with such beautiful compassion, expertise of care and love.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to make a charitable donation to honor Jean Hendrikson,
