On December 23, 2020 Pauline “Polly” (Woods-Smith) Yearty passed away and joined her beloved husband Herman “Gene” Yearty and cherished son Terrence “Terry” G. Yearty. Her progressive brain disease took her intrepid independence and snatched away her love of quilting, reading, rescuing animals, her love of family and friends, and joy for watching nature and WWII documentaries. Thanks to excellent care from her care givers and Hospice, she died free of pain at Blossom Creek Memory Center in Wenatchee, Washington. Polly was born April 25,1939 in Everett, WA to Terence and Helen (Caldbick) Woods-Smith. Her father was a mining engineer and geologist, and they spent several years in Bolivia and Chile before moving back to Sandy Point on Whidbey Island where she graduated from Langley High School. She met Herman “Gene” Yearty, a young Navy Yeoman, through a mutual friend while horseback riding, and they married on Halloween Day 1959. She was a proud member of the US Navy through her husband and lived in Texas, Panama Canal Zone and Scotland. After Gene was discharged, they moved to Jacksonville, FL where they raised Terry, and Gene ran the family exterminator business along with his father & brother. Polly retired from the commercial insurance field. She loved and rescued many animals, and enjoyed competitive endurance riding with her Appaloosa “Lou” achieving many ribbons and awards. After Gene passed away in 2003, she lived with her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. In 2015, well into her ‘senior years’ the entire family drove in various vehicles (with 7 cats) across the US to Wenatchee, WA. She leaves behind her daughter-in-law, and friend Barbara (Huse) Yearty. Also her granddaughter, Alexia Jean Yearty, who Polly felt was the brightest sphere in the firmament and the reason the sun rose every day. She leaves behind her sister, Teryl (Woods-Smith) (and husband Hernando) Torres, brother, Sam (and wife Monika) Woods-Smith. Her ashes have been laid to rest with her husband and son at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville, FL.
