

Pearl “Paulie” Lavonne Wallace was born on May 11, 1934 at home in Silver Lake, Wisconsin to Francis Wallace and Anne Katherine Maxime Wallace. She was the oldest of six children. In 1956, Paulie graduated from the University of Wisconsin with her teaching degree, while working various jobs to make ends meet. She was fondly remembered as a beautiful girl with dark brown curls that could light up a room with her smile. In the fall of 1957, she traveled to California to begin her teaching career. It was in California that she met Silas Bates. They were married on February 14, 1958. In 1959, they welcomed the birth of their son, Alan Bates. The birth of their daughter, Alison followed in 1960. Shortly afterwards the family moved to Spokane, Washington to be able to provide better care for Alison who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Paulie was a devoted mother and loving wife. Family meant everything to her. She spent many years, happily operating and managing with Silas in the development of their real estate business. Paulie passed away with her husband faithfully by her side on September 12, 2014 in Spokane, Washington. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Doug. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Silas Bates; son, Alan Bates; daughter, Alison Bates; brother, Duane; sisters, Carol, Mary Patricia and Gale (Butch). A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 19th at 11:00am at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Road, Spokane Valley, WA 99206. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, a charity Paulie supported for many years.
