Barbara Elliott Miller

Passed away April 17, 2012. She was born May 20, 1920 in Lamont, WA to Marcus W. and Inez (Elliott) Miller. The family, including her younger sister, Carolyn, moved to Rosalia & the two girls graduated from Rosalia High School. Barbara went on to Whitworth College, then taught one year at Davenport High School during World War II. The following years she spent in New York City making theater rounds & acquiring an Actors Equity union card, then returned to Spokane & a job with the morgue of the Spokesman-Review & Chronicle. She also acted & directed with Civic Theatre and friends Betty Tomlinson & Dorothy Darby Smith. A move to Houston brought work with the Alley Theatre and the Playhouse followed by a return to New York & a Special Library job with General Dynamics Corporation. When the company moved its corporate headquarters to St. Louis in 1970, Barbara & the library went too. She started a summer theatre, ACT Inc., which is still thriving. Retiring to San Diego in 1986, she was active with Actors Alliance & Carlsbad Playreaders & drove north to direct several shows for Spokane Civic Theatre. She moved to Spokane Valley in 2004 to be near her sister, since deceased, & two nieces, Penelope (Tom) Mathison, in Spokane Valley, & Wendy (Peter) Hein, on the Coast. At her request, there will be no service. The family would like to thank Hospice of Spokane and Valley Hospital for their kind & compassionate care.
