David Patton brought sunshine to the world for over 84 years. Born in 1939 to Margarite and Crawford Patton, Dave joined his sister Claudia at their Oaksdale, WA farming home. He and Claudia were close in age and the best of friends. Many years later his Brother Jack would also join the family. By the age of 11 Dave was directing crop dusters for extra cash and driving the family tractor. Dave was always proud of his perfect attendance award for his entire K-12 career. Dave never complained, took pride in his work and above all found joy in each day.
Dave attended the University of Idaho where he met the love of his life Patti (nee Ramsey). Patti said that she knew at the time that marrying Dave would bring her a life of love and much fun. The fun continued for almost 63 years. They lived in Washington, California and Arizona over the years. When adversity would come their way, Dave would work hard, adjust his expectations and find joy around every corner. Dave and Patti were an amazing example of everlasting love.
Dave had two daughters who count themselves lucky to be born such a loving family. Krista was “daughter number 1” and Keli was “daughter number 2” as daddy often said. He joked until the day before he died that he was still working on getting them a younger brother. “Daddy” was a fun father. He was the tickle monster, the skiing instructor and the attender of all recitals, concerts and performances. When his daughters would come to him with a problem he would listen carefully and then tell them that they had a good head on their shoulders and he knew they would figure it out. And they did, because he gave them the confidence to do so.
Dave loved his dogs and could always be counted on for lots of pets and snacks.
Dave had 4 beloved grandchildren; Malorie, Rosemary, Lexie and Calvin. He loved going to Disneyland with them and showing them around Arizona. In later years Dave delighted in his great grandchildren Sadie, Myles and Brooks. He had a special love for Myles who shared his love of tractors.
Dave is also survived by his loving nieces Joyce, Janet, Keri and nephew George. His “in-law sons” Mike, Hank, Drake and Jimmy will also miss his wonderful smile. Dave was preceded in death by his beloved nephew Duane. Dave and Duane loved to BBQ together and share a dirty joke or two.
Dave died on August 11, 2023 surrounded by his family. His sister Claudia had been to visit just the week before. But we don’t dwell on his death. What we will always remember is that he lived. Love, joy, happiness, laughter and most of all fun are what he brought to all around him. He lived. And this world is so much better for him being in it.
