Gail Irene Harty (Ring), 78, of Spokane Valley, Washington, was called home to be with her Lord and savior on August 29, 2021; due to multiple health conditions she suffered over many years. Gail was born on April 30, 1943, in Boise, Idaho, to parents Juanita (Needs) and Ellary Ring.
Gail was beautiful inside and out. She used this to her advantage by working as a model during her younger years. Her alluring looks also caught the eye of her first husband, Jerry (Gerald) Serpa. The two married in 1958 and had three children together, David, Michael, and Julie. The young Airforce family travelled serval places and eventually ended up being assigned to Fairchild Airforce Base. They permanently set up residency in Spokane, where Gail and her children remained, even after she and Jerry divorced. Gail would go on to marry two more times to Wayne Wagner and Bob Harty before deciding marriage was just not for her.
Gail was a hard-working single mother. She bartended at the Gaslight and Little Bigfoot Taverns during the evenings to put herself through school during the day, all while raising three children. After finishing her college degree, Gail worked as a Health Unit Coordinator at Sacred Heart Hospital for the course of the next twenty years. After leaving Sacred Heart she would work for several more years at Spokane Neighborhood Action Program (SNAP) until she was forced to retire due to her health issues.
Gail prided herself in having a charming home with an impeccable yard and garden. She delighted in crocheting and sewing, making many blankets and clothes over the years for family members. In addition, she enjoyed cooking or going out for a bite to eat with her family. Gail’s biggest love was her children and grandchildren. She had a giving heart and there wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for her family to help them out. She cherished being surrounded by her family and her face would especially light up when little ones came to visit. Gail was no stranger to pain and suffering. She lived the last few years of her life with a broken heart due to the loss of her two boys, David and Michael. As hard as her life had been, she was strong and overcame the obstacles she faced. She found solace in her relationship with Jesus and could be found reading her bible daily or watching church sermons on television.
Gail is preceded in death by parents, Ellary and Juanita Ring, sons; David Serpa and Michael Serpa; great-grandson, Robert Findley Jr.; sister, Alvina Green; and prior spouses, Jerry Serpa, Wayne Wagner, and Bob Harty. Gail is survived by daughter, Julie McGlynn; grandchildren, Heidi Findley, Patrick Salerno, Rebecca Serpa, Erin Serpa, Sandra McGlynn, Alicia Serpa, Steven Serpa, Patricia Martinez, David Serpa, and Brandon Serpa; twenty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette Ansted and Sandra Herrin; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on her birthdate, April 30, 2022, in Spokane, Washington. Details of the service will be available on a later date.
