

Helen Jean Nygaard (age 78) passed away January 28, 2012 at her home in Spokane, WA. She was born November 14, 1933 in Medical Lake, WA to Ruben and Evelyn (Henderson) Heyer, and was a lifetime resident of the Spokane area. She attended Rogers High School, and enjoyed dancing most of her life. She met Carl Nygaard at a dance at the Armory in downtown Spokane, and they were later married on July 9, 1949. Helen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Shadle Park Ward. She was involved with the Relief Society, and was a temple worker. Helen was a member of the Expo ’74 Choir, and is remembered as an excellent homemaker who was deeply compassionate. She worked for a time as bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Industrial Electric Service, but her life was her family. She is survived by nine children, Stanley Nygaard, Brenda Burch, Christie Nygaard, Scott Nygaard, Katrina Anderson, Wendy Truman, Adrian Nygaard, Stephen Nygaard, Richard Nygaard; 40 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Carl E. Nygaard (2010) and a daughter, Janie Gail (2000). Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home; 1306 N. Monroe St. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2112 W. Francis Ave. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
