Mary Ann Cornish passed away peacefully at Kootenai Medical Center, Sunday, September 25th, 2011 due to a long term heart condition. Mary was born to Fred & Maude (Adams) Copeland in Sioux City, Iowa. Mary married Joe Good at the age of 17 and had two children with him, Fred and Susan (Shirley). Having never completed High School, only going through the 9th grade, Mary spent the majority of her life doing retail work, later divorcing Joe. At the age of 40, she gave birth to another daughter, Janine and spent four years doing live-in housekeeping until 1970 when she enrolled in the Hayward Unified School of Vocational Nursing, graduating as an LVN in 1971. She worked mostly in convelescent hospitals for nearly 35 years. Mary dedicated herself, as a single mom, to making the best possible life for her and her daughter. She worked long hours and double shifts, yet still found time for watching gymnastics practices and going to the stable. She loved our horses and her cats. Mary was preceded in death by her Brothers John, Rich, & Allen, Sister, Shirley, her Son Fred and one Grandchild. She is survived by her daughters, step son's and numerous grandchildren. Cremation is being arranged by Ball & Dodd Funeral Home in Spokane, WA. Per Mary's request, No Memorial Service is being planned; however, if you care to honor Mary's memory, a donation to the Humane Society or an animal charity of your choice would be appreciated as she loved animals as much as she did caring for the elderly.
A special Note from her daughter: Mom this is the hardest thing I've ever had to write. There are not words to describe how much I already miss you. I would like to thank the staff in the E.R., Progressive Care, The Circle of Life, Dr. Hansen and K.J at Kootenai Hospital for your considerate and truly heartfelt care of my mom; also, the Hayden Fire Department for your tender care of her on the many calls to her apartment. To all of the residents at the Sarah Street Apartments for your valued friendships and help this past week, especially Nona and Jack, You both are true angels. To Barb for giving Jessie a new home. To Carol for looking out for mom and being her friend while she was in Spokane. To my Husband Rick for sharing your stories with my Mom and for being the only thing that is holding me together right now. To Sam, Jake and Brock, who have been so supportive and helpful to me throughout this past week, Grandma would have been so proud of you! And finally, to John Pereira, You have been like a true son to Mary. It is not possible to list all of the things you have done for her over the past 60 years. Always there when she needed you. She loved you John with all of her heart.
I love you Mom. I will make sure you and Gypsy make it to Hawaii and that special park in Alameda
