Masako passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 11, 2016 at the age of 93. Masako was born on July 4, 1922 and grew up in Wapato, WA. She married Roy Yoshito Nishimura in October 1941 and was happily married for 58 years until Roy’s death in 1999. After internment at the Heart Mountain Wyoming Relocation Center, “Maggie” and Roy moved to Spokane in 1943 where she raised three sons. Maggie worked for the Crescent Department store in downtown Spokane for several years before taking on a position in the audio visual aids department of School District 81 till her retirement in 1987. In retirement, Maggie was an active volunteer at Highland Park United Methodist Church. She truly enjoyed being able to help and serve the community. Maggie enjoyed many trips to Lake Coeur d’ Alene and numerous gatherings hosted by close family friends. She was an avid supporter of Washington State University athletics and attended the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl in 2003. Maggie could always be found listening to the radio long before the era of sport television broadcasts. Family and friends were her true joy where she shared her sense of humor and ever friendly demeanor. She always had a smile for anyone; one that could literally light up the room. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Yoshito, May 16, 1999, her sister Dorothy Teramura and her husband Kay; and brother Thomas Kamikido. She is survived by sons Robert, Santa Monica, CA.; Frederick, Dillingham, AK.; and Thomas, Vancouver, WA.; and brother, George Kamikido, Ontario, Oregon. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for and visited her over the past years. A memorial service will be held on June 4, 2016 at 11 am at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 S. Garfield St., Spokane, WA. 99202. In lieu of flowers and koden, donations to Highland Park United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
