Michael Glen Allred passed away on February 23, 2026, at the age of 81, after 8 months of fighting multiple illnesses with strength and courage. In his final days, he was surrounded by the love of his family, who will miss him more than words can tell.
Born on June 14, 1944, in Boise, Idaho, the son of Cecil and Thalia Allred, Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his older sister Rita Ryan, and his younger brother Robin Allred.
Mike graduated from high school in 1962 and enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed at Beachmaster Unit-1 in San Diego, California, and served his country as an Engineman Third Class. In 1965, he was deployed to Vietnam as a member of the crew of the USS Fort Marion, attached to the U.S. Seventy Fleet, during which he was commended for his exemplary performance of duty and distinguished service during Operations Double Eagle and Blue Marlin. Mike was honorably discharged in July 1968.
After his time in the military, Mike went on to work in the casino industry in Reno and Tahoe, and adventured in Seattle, where he married and welcomed his cherished firstborn daughter, Kari Harrison. After his divorce, he found his way back to his birthplace, Boise, Idaho, but always returned to Seattle to see his daughter, whom he loved very much. In Boise, he worked as a fabric and notions sales rep, where he fell in love with and married Donna “Sidonia” Miller, then welcomed his beloved second-born daughter, Michelle Leonardson, whom he referred to as “Hamburger” for her entire life; their closeness was a constant source of joy and comfort to both of them. After his marriage to Sidonia ended amicably, they rekindled a beautiful friendship later in life and shared a special love. Mike and Sidonia shared some amazing trips together in his remaining years, including an Alaskan cruise and a trip to Maine.
Mike found his long-term career as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service, where he delivered mail in rural areas, a job he thrived in until his retirement. Outside of work, Mike was an avid bowler who spent many happy years playing in local leagues, where he found true enjoyment in the sport and the surrounding community. It was during this time that he married again and welcomed his two sons, Christopher Allred and Levon Allred. Mike and his boys enjoyed the outdoors together, fishing and hunting elk in northern Idaho, where they lived until a recent move to Spokane, Washington. Mike loved supporting Boise State football with Chris, and he was a devoted and loving grandfather to his granddaughter Lyla, who brought joy and laughter to his life. Mike shared a special bond with his son Levi, with whom he lived for many years, and he served an important role in helping raise his granddaughter, Shahailee.
Mike is survived by his daughters, sons, daughter-in-law LaRae Allred, sons-in-law Nick Leonardson and Jim Harrison, his grandchildren Shayna, Kayli, Shahailee, and Lyla, and his great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom meant the world to him.
