The details forth with are from a paper she wrote in college and family memories.
Mimi was born Miriam Merna Coffin to Pearle and Mildred (Dickhute) Coffin in Shelby, NE on February 9th, 1942. She did not love her name and asked her father politely if she could legally change it to “Mimi” which was her nickname, and he granted his permission. Her mother Mildred passed when Mimi was pregnant with her first child. Her dad Pearle remarried Margaret, who became her cherished step mother.
Funeral services will be in Ogallala, NE – the date and time will be determined at a later date.
She was the youngest of five siblings and attended school in Shelby, NE, graduating in May of 1959 at the age of 17. Early childhood was fun playing with sisters and fishing with them and grandparents. Her only brother Wayne was considerably older and already out of the house.
Mimi eloped with Glenn D. Packard to Texas for marriage on October 8th, 1961. Their marriage lasted 25 years until his death in August of 1986. To this union, three children were born: Glenn Steven, Gina Dee, and Mindy Louise. Mimi later remarried Michael E. Davis.
Mimi did bookkeeping in the early years when Glenn had aviation businesses but alongside that always was an accomplished homemaker, doing sewing, cooking and gardening for our family of five. She had her first solo flight on Oct 8th 1966 and received her private pilot license under the instruction of Glenn. She was active with the church and loved the Lord in a very special way. She started college in the 80’s, and later proudly graduated from Denver Seminary with a Master’s degree in Psychology. She had a gift this way and shared her kindness and empathy with others to help them feel and become better. Mimi left a mark on this earth with her family, children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends, and joins a large family on the other side.
She was preceded in death by her parents Pearle and Mildred Coffin, and Margaret Coffin her stepmother. Her beloved husband Glenn D. Packard, and grandchildren Brandon A Guinn and Logan Allen Guinn. All of her siblings: Wayne and Lois Coffin, Carolyn and Louis Miksch, Barbara Reisdorff, Janice and Paul Ogles & Al Lopez, Sharon and Rick Pallas. Her final years on earth were with the condition of Alzheimer’s and she passed from this disease. She received very loving, comfort care from her stay at Fairwood, and from Horizon Hospice of Spokane.
She is survived by husband Michael E. Davis, children and grandchildren: Steve (Cara) Packard, Daniel Perry and Nicole Perry, Gina (Chuck) Bennett, Luke (Dayna) Guinn and Alexandria Bennett, Mindy (Scott) Wacenske, Hunter Folyer and Jesse “Trace” Wacenske.
If you feel inclined, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s association in her honor, as well as, Horizon Hospice.
