On the afternoon of October 14, 2016, Bob passed away peacefully of natural causes. He was comforted in his passing by his wife and son, family members, and friends, just two weeks short of his 93rd birthday.
Bob was born on a farm in Williams, Iowa on November 3, 1923 to Jenny and Henry Johnson—the fourth child of five. Bob and his siblings were raised by his father and grandmother after his mother died when Bob was just three years old. He graduated from Williams High School in the spring of 1940, and entered the Navy that fall.
Bob spent the next five years on a destroyer escort in the European and Pacific theatres—France, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines—escorting supply ships to safe harbor. He was a Yeoman, First Class, and the Captain’s “Talker”—relaying orders from the Captain to the crew, due to his clear and resounding voice. When the war ended, he was stationed in San Francisco until his honorable discharge in 1947.
While in San Francisco, Bob met Maxine Meharry. The couple married in Maxine’s hometown of Spokane, Washington, May 31,1947.
Bob attended Kinman Business University for two years and graduated in April of 1949. He spent his professional life as an Accountant and later, as an Office Manager. He enjoyed gardening and travel. The couple had one son, Kim Johnson, who was born in 1954 and resides, in Spokane. Maxine passed away in 1996 after a short battle with cancer.
Bob was a faithful servant of the Lord and an active member of the Northwest Bible students in Spokane. In addition to hosting Sunday meetings in his home, he traveled to various national and international Bible Student Conventions—Seattle, Portland, Boise, Claremont and Sacramento, as well as to Vernon, BC. and group trips to Europe.
After five years alone, Bob married Geraldine (Geri) H. Randels on February 2, 2002. They spent the next 14 years in Spokane—traveling to Bible study conventions, bowling in the North Bowl League, watching sporting events, and eating at their favorite restaurant, Das Stein Haus.
In 2008, they made a trip abroad to Switzerland for Geri’s granddaughter, Mikaila’s, graduation from Webster University. In 2014, they traveled to Seattle for the graduation of Geri’s grandson, Nicola, from the Evergreen State College.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Jenny and Henry, his sisters Eileen and Darlene, his brother Darrell, and his first wife Maxine.
Bob is survived by his sister Marge, his son Kim, his wife Geri, stepdaughter’s and their spouses, Robin and Dante, Judy and John; Geri’s grandchildren,
Mikaila and Nicola.
