

Carlton Kent "C.K." Highsmith, 81, of Spring Hill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 9, 2022, surrounded by his wife and two children following a long illness. Born May 8, 1941, in Lynchburg, Virginia, adopted son of Jack Highsmith of Midlothian, Virginia.
Preceded in death by his brother Bill Highsmith.
Survived by his loving wife Dana; father Jack; sister Ann Lewis of Clover, Virginia; children, Dolly Arenas of Tampa; and Dolan Highsmith of Annandale, Virginia; four grandchildren; and beloved dog Cotton.
C.K. grew up at the Hughes Home for Boys in Danville, Virginia, with his brother Bill, working the farm and developing a love for baseball playing in the corn fields. He attended Elon College from 1962 to 1965, starring on their baseball team.
He also joined the U.S. Army, serving stateside for six months before transitioning to reservist duty for five more years. Having always wanted to be a police officer, C.K. joined the Virginia State Police in 1965, serving for 37 years, including a period as head of the Executive Protection Unit for three state governors, traveling with them all over the world. He loved his job and the people he worked with, continuing to recount highlights of his career and relationships throughout retirement.
C.K. was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and lived his life as he wanted. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life for C.K. will be planned in early 2023 in Richmond, Virginia.
